Great News From The LRC! OFA Starts Database With Dilute Test Results!

The Labrador Retriever Club Inc. is the AKC Parent Club of the Labrador Retriever. Today, May 12, 2014, the LRC published the following message on their website:

**DILUTE GENE TESTING**

By LRC Health Committee – Monday May 12, 2014.

Very exciting news – the OFA has agreed to maintain a database of Labradors who have been permanently identified (microchip or tattoo ) and have been tested for the d gene. Dogs having the genotype dd will be listed as affected, Dd as carriers of the dilute gene and DD as clear of the dilute gene. This is great news for us.  Tests are available from

We are trying to confirm if OFA will accept testing from

http://www.vetdnacenter.com/search-breed-result.php?breed=79

OFA is the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. The mission of OFA is “to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease.” The dd gene is highly susceptible to canine dilute alopecia, so technically, this gene is health threatening.

I would to thank everybody who has been working so hard to get this great result!
